Portfolio 6: Independent Client

For my first edit of my project I had to a great deal of colour correction to make sure my over exposed shots looked more creative and experimental rather than just overexposed shots from the sun. I used the colour wheels and played with the saturation, the sharpness and the contrast to make the colours of the shot look more brighter sharper and more colourful.I got this idea about making the colours pop out and look bright to stand out from watching music videos where there is uses of over exposure to make the shots look more interesting overall. For this project, I was assigned a brief which required me to create a piece of promotional media for a client of my choice. When i started this project I originally wanted to create a portfolio of images for a company to promote them as a company. When we were creating our scripts with Lillie Ferrari, I approached her to ask if she needed any promotion done for her script writing company 'Script 6' she accepted the offer and our original plan was for me to make a series of mood boards and a portfolio of images that showed off the members of the company.I researched into various styles of commercial photography and looked into ways I could produce more creative portraits. on the 19th April 2018 we had our last day of filming, we went to our location and set up, whilst Izzy was getting prepared to film, I filmed the scenery around us and conversations we were having whilst is what preparing herself, I did this because I wanted to have some uses of cutaways and to add some more personality to Izzy's performance and to help create her image as an artist. We had filmed on a very sunny day and I thought that I could try out some shots with some overexposure, after using the overexposure on various shots, my results were mixed I found that some of the shots I produced look quite interesting but I found that a few shots look well to over exposed and just unwatchable. We filmed 5 verses from izzy's piece and we used 6 different chots in different areas of the location. Panning Shots: I wanted into using pans for this project because after looking into music videos from musical and spoken word artists this a convention which is typically used to capture the movement of the artists performance, Panning shots are shots which begin still, then either veered right or left. for example in the music video for Kendrick Lamar's song 'Kings Dead' there is a large use of pans and zooms which reveal certain visual elements or performances occurring on screen. I like the way this video particularly uses panning because it usually reveals something visually interesting or humorous for example at the 0:50 to 1:00 of the video there is a close up shot of some money being gambled then it slowly zooms out to a group of women and the camera then slowly pans left till it is stopped at a barber shop and then zoomed into a close up of the rapper Jay Rock performing his verse. 500 days of summer  500 days of summer is an offbeat comedy directed by Mark Webb and stars Joseph Gordon Levitt and Zoey Deschanel. The story is about a woman (Summer) who doesn't believe true love exists and about the young man (Tom) who falls in love with her. This film is not a typical love story, it tries to remove and scramble up the typical romantic comedy cliche's. The way this film deals with depression from a romantic perspective is very interesting, the film starts off with our main character tom showing massive signs of depression because of his breakup with summer. For this project I have been asked to independently create a piece of media in a specialist area of my choice for a client or a company to commercially promote them.to make sure that I can create the best possible project for my client I have to go into in depth research and experimentation in my specialist area. When creating the project I will have to regularly meet with my client to make sure that what I am creating up to their standards and so they can also inform me of what they want me to create and what I need to do to fit the standards of what they want me to create. After my project is finally finished I will hand it over to my client for whatever purpose they intend to use it for. After reading this brief I understand that the research and experimentation I will have to undergo will have to realte largely to the work and I will need to take extra care when doing it because it needs to support the work that I will be creating for my client. My client this for production is writer Izzy Walker, for this production Izzy has asked me to film her performing her spoken word piece in order to promote herself as a writer. Izzy has recently started writing and performing spoken word pieces to develop herself as a Song writer and Novelist I had approached izzy and had spoken to her about what she would want me to produce with her and we agreed that we wanted a cinematic looking spoken word piece that would focus on the feelings of depression, loss and love. When filmed edited and completed the piece will be released on izzy's spoken word page on Instagram called 'Izzy Words' and on her Youtube Channel of the same name. Izzy has also asked me to take some promotional photography as well for her page, Blog and Instagram account

My clients influ ences Izzy walker, my client is inspired heavily by many artists to do with spoken word and within the music industry, her pieces are mainly based off depression and the issues of the youth today. Izzy has originally started with spoken word pieces in order for her to be a more capable song writer and novelist. The influences are which I am going to talk about have impacted her writing style and subject matters in her writing. I have researched into this because I want to truly understand how I can understand her writing to the point where I can create the best visual piece for her that I can.
